Project: „Fort-Union” (LTPL00354)
The intersectorial festival „Fort-Union” – will take place on September 20-21 at Fort IV in Kaunas Fortress Park.
The festival aims to create a creative and practical space for the first public cooperation
between Lithuanian and Polish partners and to launch and promote a new tourism product –
the annual international history and heritage festival dedicated to cross-border communities
acting in fortified sites.
During the festival history reenactors, representatives of memory institutions and heritage
specialists from Lithuania and Poland will learn more about one of the largest objects in the
project – Fort IV (Kaunas) in the context of World War I and its inputs and outputs: from
Napoleon’s crossing of the Nemunas River to World War II, when the strategic importance
of Kaunas and the fate of the entire region became apparent. The two-day event program
will include a heritage fair, reenactors’ performances, light installations, land art sculptures,
an international history-inspired musical program, presentations of tourist attractions in
Kaunas, Varėna, Białystok, and Giżycko, as well as educational and creative workshops.
