Lithuanian and Polish border guard officers strengthen skills in high-risk operations

2025-12-16

Lithuanian and Polish border guard officers have successfully completed specialized training on operating in high-risk situations, focusing on vehicle checks and the prevention of illegal activities at the border.

The sessions were led by Arūnas Vaičiulis, an experienced lecturer in professional skills development for officers. He highlighted the importance of continuous learning:
“The nature of border violations and threats is constantly changing, so officers’ knowledge and skills must be regularly updated. Only a professionally trained officer can respond appropriately to emerging risks, preventing and investigating border violations.”

During the training, officers enhanced key skills critical to the success of border operations, including:

  • Risk assessment and response when forcibly stopping vehicles

  • Procedures when a driver refuses to comply

  • Safe and effective vehicle pursuit

  • Application of coercive measures

  • Inspection of suspicious objects in the border area

This training is part of a series of competence-building sessions under the project “Joint actions of Lithuanian and Polish Border Guard Services to contribute to a safer and more secure Europe”. Upcoming sessions will focus on strengthening officers’ expertise in criminal intelligence and investigations.

The project is implemented by the State Border Guard Service under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania and the Podlaski Border Guard Regional Unit of Maj. Gen. Henryk Minkiewicz and is scheduled for completion in 2027.
