Project summary:
The EcoCamp project addressed shared environmental challenges in the Polish–Lithuanian border area, including water pollution, habitat degradation, deforestation, and low environmental awareness. Led by the Foundation for the Protection of the Great Masurian Lakes, in cooperation with partners from the Giżycko Commune and Vilnius District, the project responded to the fact that environmental problems crossed administrative borders and required joint, coordinated action.
The project aimed to increase ecological awareness and promote pro-environmental behaviour among local communities through education, active participation, and cross-border cooperation. Key activities included two EcoFestivals and two EcoCamps organised in Poland and Lithuania, which combined environmental education, clean-up actions, field activities, and the use of modern environmental technologies. These initiatives engaged residents, youth, and educators, encouraging greater responsibility for nature and sustainable development.
A distinctive element of the project was the analysis of collected and sorted waste during clean-up campaigns, which visibly demonstrated the scale and sources of pollution and supported more conscious waste management. Through joint events, knowledge exchange, and shared analyses, EcoCamp strengthened cooperation between the Masurian and Vilnius regions and contributed to improved environmental quality by treating the shared ecosystem as one interconnected whole.
