Project summary:
The ActConnect project promotes sustainable social tourism in the cross-border region between Trakai (LT) and Giżycko (PL) to address common challenges such as an aging population, seasonal tourism, limited intergenerational cooperation, and reliance on natural resources. Social tourism is recognized by the European Commission as an effective tool to combat social exclusion, poverty, and unemployment.
Through cross-border cooperation, the project will develop innovative solutions for sustainable social tourism, support local economies, and enhance social inclusion for disadvantaged groups. The partnership, led by Trakai District Municipality Administration with Rural Municipality of Giżycko as project partner, aims to increase equal access to leisure and tourism opportunities, fostering a more inclusive and cohesive society.
