Project summary:
The project addresses a common health issue in the Poland–Lithuania border region—skin diseases, particularly skin cancer, which accounts for around one-third of all malignant tumours in both countries. Suwałki and Alytus hospitals have identified similar challenges, including low public awareness of preventive check-ups, a lack of screening initiatives, limited use of AI-based diagnostic technologies, and insufficient staff training in modern methods. To tackle these issues, the project aims to improve the quality and accessibility of specialised care by introducing AI-supported diagnostic tools, conducting two trainings for medical staff, launching an awareness campaign, and equipping both hospitals with modern devices such as videodermatoscopes with AI, a review station, and a nitrogen pen. A screening of 500 residents will be carried out to compare the effectiveness of AI versus traditional methods, with results published in a publicly available report. The project targets medical staff and residents of Suwałki and Alytus regions, offering a cross-border, innovative approach to healthcare that combines public education, professional development, and technological advancement to ensure earlier diagnosis and better access to modern solutions on both sides of the border.
