Project summary:
The project aims to create a culturally meaningful initiative for communities along the Lithuanian-Polish border by reviving and promoting traditional games from the 14th to the 19th centuries. Its mission is to preserve these games as a vital part of cultural identity while aligning their revitalisation with the principles of sustainable tourism and modern social and environmental awareness. Addressing the challenge of declining interest and insufficient documentation of these traditions, the project seeks to restore traditional games as living elements of community life. Its main objectives are to rekindle appreciation for these games and to deepen understanding of their historical, cultural, and social significance. The project will deliver key outputs, including historical research on the origins and rules of traditional games, the restoration and adaptation of selected games to contemporary contexts, and the development of educational activities that foster intergenerational and intercultural exchange. These actions will strengthen community identity, offer visitors engaging cultural experiences, and enhance cross-cultural understanding. The project’s cross-border perspective unites the shared heritage of Lithuania and Poland while celebrating the uniqueness of each community’s traditions. Its innovative character lies in combining cultural heritage preservation with sustainable tourism principles—ensuring environmental sensitivity, social inclusiveness, and active participation of all generations. Through this integrated approach, the project aspires to build a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable model for safeguarding and celebrating the traditional games and cultural heritage of the Lithuanian-Polish border region.
