Project summary:
In Mońki, green bus stops, pergolas, green walls, birdhouses and an accessible educational trail are being created to increase greenery and biodiversity. Švenčionys is introducing outdoor drinking water stations and replacing indoor systems with connections to the municipal water supply, reducing the use of plastic containers. The partners are also jointly preparing a study on climate change adaptation of selected urban green spaces, identifying nature-based solutions such as shading, greening and water retention.
Education and community engagement are an important part of the activities. ECO campaigns, lectures, family and senior events, as well as an eco-school exchange programme, encourage residents and young people to learn about and actively support sustainable practices. By sharing experience and developing practical solutions together, Mońki and Švenčionys are strengthening cross-border cooperation and creating examples of small-scale climate adaptation that can be further developed and replicated.
