Project summary:
The project brings together partners from Lithuania and Poland to improve the protection and sustainable management of shared water resources in the Nemunas and Czarna Hańcza river basin. By addressing challenges such as water pollution, flood risks, and increasing pressure on drinking water resources, the project promotes innovative rainwater management solutions and encourages the reuse of rainwater to support climate resilience and environmental protection.
With the support of ERDF funding, the partners construct rainwater treatment facilities in Alytus and Suwałki, strengthen emergency drinking water supply capacity, and implement educational and awareness-raising activities for residents, businesses, and public institutions. Through joint cross-border cooperation, the project improves water quality, reduces pollution entering local rivers, promotes sustainable water use, and contributes to the long-term protection of the Baltic Sea catchment.
