Project summary:
The project focuses on cross-border cooperation between healthcare institutions in Poland and Lithuania to improve access to medical transport and mobile healthcare services. It brings together the General Hospital in Wysokie Mazowieckie, Šalčininkai District Municipal Hospital, and Eišiškės Primary Healthcare Centre to address challenges linked to ageing populations, low population density, and limited transport access in rural areas.
The initiative responds to the increasing need for efficient and appropriate medical transport, particularly for elderly and less mobile residents who often face difficulties reaching healthcare facilities. It aims to reduce the overuse of emergency ambulance services for non-emergency cases by improving alternative hospital-based transport solutions and raising public awareness of proper emergency service use.
The project includes the purchase of ambulances, the development of joint system solutions, and training activities for medical and non-medical staff. It also focuses on knowledge exchange between Polish and Lithuanian healthcare providers, particularly in areas such as emergency care procedures, patient transport, and supportive care systems.
By combining investment, training, and cooperation, the project aims to strengthen the resilience of healthcare systems in both countries, improve access to medical services in rural areas, and ensure better preparedness in crisis situations. It also lays the foundation for long-term cross-border collaboration and improved quality of healthcare delivery in the region.
