Specific objective:
2.2 - Enhancing the role of culture and sustainable tourism in economic development, social inclusion and social innovation
Date:
From: 2024.12.01 Till: 2025.11.30
Project summary:
The project aims to strengthen cross-border cooperation between cultural institutions in Poland and Lithuania, addressing socio-economic challenges and underdeveloped cultural tourism in the sparsely populated border region. The area’s tourism potential is limited by seasonal conditions, low cross-border mobility, and underused cultural heritage sites, often associated with historical tensions. Through this project, partners will reinforce cultural institutions and engage the public with innovative presentations of local heritage, fostering economic development and tourism. LP1 will focus on promoting ancient culinary traditions and handicrafts through events such as the Kruklanki Handicrafts Festival and the “Mazurian Flavours” Culinary Festival, including a temporary photo exhibition and a promotional film. PP2 will highlight the historical significance of Paežeriai Manor, a unique 16th-17th century Suduva estate, through events like the Manor Festival (Festival of Roses), showcasing Simon Zabiela’s culinary heritage, and improving visitor services with lighting, audio guides, and reconstructed artifacts. Both partners will carry out joint workshops, promotional activities, and develop a Cooperation and Marketing Plan with meetings in Lithuania and Poland. The project addresses challenges such as insufficient cultural infrastructure, limited equipment, restricted cultural offerings, and low community engagement, particularly among younger generations, while enhancing cross-border collaboration, cultural education, and the attractiveness of heritage tourism for local and foreign visitors.
