Project summary:
The project aims to enhance the safety of residents in the Lithuanian–Polish border region and to ensure the continuity of cooperation between the rescue services of both countries in emergency and crisis situations. Its implementation focuses on strengthening civil protection and crisis management through joint training of rescuers and the development of essential infrastructure for effective cross-border response. Given the current geopolitical context, including Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine, the project partners have identified the urgent need to improve preparedness and resilience in the Programme area. Planned activities include joint training sessions for Lithuanian and Polish rescuers, the construction of a modern fire station with an underground shelter in Jurbarkas, the establishment of a backup command centre in Lapy, and the purchase of rescue equipment and a vehicle equipped with a mobile breathing air compressor. The fire station in Jurbarkas will be the first facility of its kind in Lithuania, serving as both a critical safety structure and a model example of how protective shelters should be designed and constructed. Through these investments, the project will not only enhance emergency response capacity but also reinforce long-term cross-border cooperation and readiness in the face of emerging threats.
