Project summary:
The project covers border regions of Poland and Lithuania and involves SP ZOZ WSPR in Białystok and the Lithuanian Ambulance Service. Both areas face low levels of social development and underperforming health systems, with cardiovascular diseases being the leading cause of death. Fast emergency care is therefore crucial, especially in rural areas.
Shared challenges—disasters, migration pressures and the impact of the war in Ukraine—highlight the need for coordinated action. Medical staff must be prepared for extreme situations, and communities need basic first aid skills. Joint work helps harmonise procedures, build capacity and improve the quality and speed of emergency response.
The project strengthens emergency services by:
Training medical personnel in disaster response and battlefield medicine
Purchasing new ambulances
Training rural residents (45+) in first aid using phantoms
Running an information campaign and a final conference
Main outputs include a joint working group, six meetings, training for 120 medics, first aid training for 200 residents, two sets of phantoms, three ambulances and a wrap-up conference.
Cross-border cooperation is essential where emergencies often affect both sides of the border and quick response determines survival. The project will improve preparedness, harmonise practices and create safer, better-prepared communities in both countries.
